CHCX-3 Partners Winter Update

CHCx3 Project Updates: What We’ve Been Up To

The CHCx3 project partners have had an incredibly busy autumn and early winter, with a range of events, research activities, and industry collaborations shaping our work.

Cover Crop Open Day

In mid-October, we hosted a field day at Morley to showcase this year’s cover crop trials. The event attracted significant interest in the different components of the mixtures, and we were fortunate to have an insightful talk from Liz Bowles, CEO of the Farm Carbon Toolkit, who shared valuable knowledge on carbon sequestration in farming systems.

Agri-TechE Day

Early November saw the arrival of Agri-TechE Week, during which CHCx3 hosted an event exploring whether regenerative agriculture can help bring us closer to Net Zero. The discussions covered a wide range of topics, including soil carbon dynamics and waste valorisation, with valuable insights from experts in the field.

Visit to IndiNature

At the end of October, the CHCx3 team visited IndiNature’s processing facility to gain a deeper understanding of how hemp and flax are transformed from retted fibres into high-performance insulation products. The visit provided an excellent opportunity to see sustainable material innovation in action.

CropTec 2024

At CropTec, our Project Lead, Dr Lydia Smith, delivered an outstanding talk on the opportunities for farmers in industrial hemp cultivation. She highlighted the economic and environmental benefits of growing hemp, including its potential to improve soil health, boost biodiversity, and contribute to carbon capture.
