4:20 is known as International Cannabis Day. It is attributed to five high school students in San Rafael, California, who called themselves the ‘Waldos.’ They used the term “4:20” as a code word to find an abandoned cannabis crop, based on a treasure map made by the grower. They were unsuccessful in their attempt but they continued the tradition to smoke at 4:20pm on 20th April.

It was made popular in the early 1990’s, by High Times and the Grateful Dead music band, and it became known as a day of coordinated civil disobedience, when smokers lit up together. It has now grown into a global movement, and as awareness grows, the importance of keeping the Cannbis plant in our grassroots community is vital.

We know that CBD is an essential supplement for health and wellbeing, and to build our immune systems. A very recent research is claiming it can even help protect and reduce symptoms from Coronavirus.

But, instead of governments reducing the barriers to allow us access to this wonderful plant, we face more crippling legislation, and a take over of whole plant medicine by the pharmaceutical industry.

The UK is in turmoil, a recession is looming, our farming industry is  close to collapse, businesses are going under, unemployment is at a high, and the general public’s mental health post Coronavirus. Hemp is a viable solution to kick-start a green economy.

We need to make sure that our UK government recognises this incredible plants high impact solutions, and remove all the barriers to growth to allow a free-market hemp industry. By enabling the domestic hemp industry to flourish we will help combat a recession, save the UK farming industry, create new business and jobs, and offer products that will benefit both peoples health and the planet.
